1. Focus on creating a small number of really great pieces of content. It should be long-form content that goes very in-depth on a topic of interest to your store’s ideal audience. I advocate for only creating 5 to 10 really great pieces of content per year rather than constantly churning out lame, thin content that your customers don’t want, and Google won’t rank.

2. Create a content calendar that details exactly when you’ll be posting each of your content pieces throughout the year. Space them apart logically, keeping your personal schedule, holidays, and such in mind.

3. Produce less, promote more. A huge benefit of only creating 5 to 10 content pieces per year is that you’ll have sufficient time and resources to promote that content… which is just as important as the content itself. If you don’t promote it, no one will ever see it, Google won’t rank it, and your potential customers will find somewhere else to get the information and products they need.

4. Be open to creating multiple forms of content. Blog posts, videos, lives, social posts… you have lots of options and they can all work. But the same underlying principles apply. Create great content that your customers want to consume.

5. Understand your customers so that you can anticipate what they want. If you know the deep and burning questions your customers have, you can create the great content that they’ll love you for. Find out where your ideal customers congregate online and join them. Figure out what they do for fun and how your products fit into that fun. Understand what language they use when talking about your products or similar products from competitors, and use that same language when you ‘speak to them’ through your content.

6. Ultimately, it’s all about becoming a trusted resource. An authority. The go-to for the information and/or entertainment that your customers want most. Do that and you’ll have a loyal customer base who buy from you repeatedly and recommend you enthusiastically.
